Magnesium carbonate is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula MgCO3, molecular weight 84.31 and relative density 3.037 [1]. White granular powder. It breaks down at 350℃ and loses carbon dioxide at 900℃. Slightly dissolves in cold water and slowly dissolves in acid. The trihydrate is a colorless acicular crystal with a melting point of 165℃ and a relative density of 1.850. The pentahydrate is a white monoclinic crystal with a relative density of 1.73 and is decomposed by heating in air. Hydrate can be obtained by adding carbon dioxide into magnesium brine solution and sodium carbonate at the same time. Anhydrous can be obtained by drying the hydrate at below 50℃.

Properties and stability： In normal temperature, it's with three hydrates. Light one is white, easily fragile or loose white powder. Odorless. Relative density is 2.2. Melting point is 350ºC. It's stable in the air. When heated to 700ºC, it will become magnesium oxide. It's hardly soluble in water, but it'll bring a slight alkaline reaction. It can not be soluble in ethanol but it could be soluble in olefine acid with sparkling.Is basic hydrated magnesium carbonate or normal hydrated magnesium carbonate. Because of the different conditions of crystallization, the product has light and heavy quality, generally light. At room temperature, it is sanshui salt. Light for white easily fragmentary or loose white powder. Odourless. It's stable in the air. When heated to 700℃, carbon dioxide is released and magnesium oxide is produced. Almost insoluble in water, but causes a slight alkaline reaction in water. Insoluble in ethanol, soluble by dilute acid and foaming.

Application：

 It is mainly used for Rubber, Shoes, Painting, Pigment, Ceramics, Glaze, Ink, Cosmetic Goods, Pharmaceutical production：

1. Used for manufacturing magnesium salt, magnesium oxide, fireproof paint, ink, glass, toothpaste, rubber filler, etc., used as flour improver in food, bread leavening agent, etc.

2. Neutralizing gastric acid, used for gastric and duodenal ulcers.

3. Alkaline agent, desiccant, color protection agent, anti-caking agent, carrier, leavening agent and acidity regulator. EEC is intended for: table salt, powdered sugar, acidic cream, milk, ice cream, biscuits. Used to prepare chemical leavening agent. Residues in food should not be greater than 0.5% (Japan). Used to prevent salt caking, adding 0.1% ~ 0.3%.
